Day 1 - Tour begins in Kelowna. From here, we will travel to where the gulls are, which is often at either end of Okanagan Lake, so Penticton or Vernon. We will spend time studying gulls, and discussing identification features. The usual species, like California, Ring-billed, Short-billed, American Herring, Iceland, and Glaucous-winged gulls will most likely be present, and if we're lucky, we may see rarer species like Glaucous Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull or something even more exciting. Since we'll be along the waterfront, other birds to look for include loons, grebes, waterfowl, Bald Eagles, Great Blue Heron, etc. Winter birds should be arriving, so we may bump into species like Northern Shrike, Rough-legged Hawk, Bohemian Waxwing, and the like during our travels. Night in Kelowna.
Day 2 - Again, we will travel to where the gulls are. We will work on identifying key features on how to tell what age the birds are, an important aspect of separating gull species. In the afternoons, if we're 'all gulled out', we may look for some of the Okanagan's other sought-after species, like Canyon Wren, Pygmy Nuthatch, Western Screech-Owl, Northern Pygmy-Owl and more. Tour will end in late afternoon back in Kelowna.
